Junk in Brazil

Traditionally, countries like USA, Germany, Japan and China, are pointed out as the countries that produce, consume and discard products of domestic high-tech, professional and industrial.

However, according to 2010 data, collected by UNEP (United Nations Program for Environment), Brazil is an emerging country that generates more e-waste per person each year. The UN has said at the time that the country has no comprehensive strategy to deal with the problem, depending only on individual projects in private and state level.

In the Brazilian industry, the issue is still not a priority. According to the figures, Brazil is emerging that more parents refrigerator drops per person per year and is in the first places to dispose of cell phones, TVs and printers. The study also found that the recent expansion of emerging economies increased domestic consumption and consumption of consumer electronics and appliances.

A key factor is economic stability and ease of obtaining credit. This situation led to the increasing waste generation. The UN estimates that, across the planet, 40 million tons of electronic waste are generated annually. Much of this number is generated by rich countries.

The major concern is how the UN emerging countries will be able to deal with this growing waste material. According to UNEP, the countries that will suffer most are Mexico, India, China and Brazil, which have serious environmental and public health if we do not know how to repurpose, reuse and recycle equipment and supplies electronic components.

Figures published by the UN indicate that Brazil dismisses 96 800 metric tons of PCs; China dismisses 300 000 tonnes, but the person overcomes Brazil China for dropping a pound of electronic waste per capita, while China, where the population is much higher, the disposal of PCs per capita is 0.23 pounds.
