ELECTRONIC WASTE IN BRAZILABSTRACT

Waste electronics have large amounts of heavy metals, for
incorrectly can cause many serious problems. The objective of this study was
verify the feasibility of importing electronic waste to Brazil, developing
for that stock of the major environmental risks and damage caused to public health
for such waste, aspects of environmental legislation in relation to the subject,
survey of different niches that make up this market as well as the receptivity
the same for imports as well as an estimate of the level of knowledge of
workers involved in this type of activity on the subject. The results of this study
demonstrates that the state of technological waste in Brazil is still an issue that requires
attention of public initiatives, private sector and communities themselves, especially
with respect to safe handling, and to provide information on the
category of waste. In our opinion, the import of electronic waste from
other countries in itself is not a priority at the moment.
